Berlin 2/2

We went over to the west side, to Charlottenburg, wandered about the area, looked at the castle, had a fantastic greek meal and then hit the jazz club.  Lots of fun.  The next day we did the zoo and then Potsdamer Platz Christmas Market - which included a toboggan run and an Austrian nightclub tent.  It was so much fun.  People were dancing on the tables by 21:00.   One of the highlights was the techno version of "Take Me Home, Country  Road" which everyone knew the lyrics too.

We even managed to get our washing done, the laundry-mat near our apartment is in the back of a small bar that plays Bundesliga games.  And the rule of house is that you can't use the washing machines unless you buy a beer (or a coffee).  So we spent 2 hours drinking beer and watching Dortmund blitz Hoffenheim in an exciting match all the while the stupid chore of washing clothes whilst on holiday was also being completed.  In all the hotels and the apartments we have stayed so far in Germany - no clothes washing facilities.

The birthday present I bought GB - the soccer match between Hertha Berlin and Frankfurt - the one we both had been looking forward to...well the enclosed letter with the tickets (I bought them from a UK ticket agent that does the handshake between sellers and buyers etc) stated that the game started at 19:00.  We catch the train out to the Olympic Stadium and it is deserted - almost, there is a carney set up in the misty dark.  But no fans, no crowds of people.  We wander up to the security guard who tells us that the game started at 13:00 and the score was 2 to 1 Hertha Berlin.  Boo!

So while I am sad to be leaving Berlin, feeling quite sure that we just needed another couple of days - weeks to get to know her better, I am also excited to be headed to Weimar.

An angry email was sent to agent and refund given  - although I would have preferred just to go to the game
